Retaining Wall Replacement

Replacing failed retaining walls.

Removing and replacing walls that are leaning, rotting or moving — and dealing with the reason they failed rather than repeating it.

Why walls get replaced

Most replacements we do around Wollongong are timber walls that have reached the end of their life, or walls that were built without the drainage or footing depth the site needed.

If the wall is leaning, cracking or starting to move, it's worth finding out why. That answer changes what we build next.

  • Rotted timber sleepers and posts
  • Posts tilting or lifting out
  • Bowing between posts
  • Soil escaping through gaps
  • Movement after heavy rain
  • Walls that were never drained

How a replacement runs

The old wall comes out, along with any failed backfill that's holding water. We excavate and prepare the wall line, set new footings to a depth suited to the height and load, then build, drain and backfill.

Removal and disposal of the old wall and spoil is part of the job — and part of the price, which is why access matters so much.

Doing it once

A replacement is the opportunity to fix what caused the failure. If surface water above the wall was the problem, or the footings were never deep enough, rebuilding to the same spec just resets the clock.

Staged or partial replacement

Sometimes only a section has gone and the rest has years left. We'll tell you honestly if a section can be replaced on its own, or if the whole run needs doing to get a result worth paying for.

Tell us what's happening

Photos of the wall and surrounding ground can tell us a lot before we call.

Send through a couple of photos and we'll get a better idea of the site.

Call us, or use the quote form. Photos of the wall, the ground behind it and the access tell us more than a description ever will.
